Losing your hair can be a catastrophic experience and it could be particularly traumatizing for a women given the social stigma attached to it. Hair Loss can affect your psychological and emotional personality. Women can suffer from hair loss in all age groups ranging from 10-70 years. It becomes noticeable during your shower, while you are brushing it, when you are blow drying it and even post pregnancy. The generalized statement that we shed between 100-150 hair per day is exactly that - a generalization. Hair strands lost per day can vary from 5 - 250. If the shedding becomes consistent and increased scalp visibility then it is a concern. Women suffer hair loss due to quite a few different causes.
1. Female Pattern Loss or Androgenetic Alopecia
in which there is gradual thinning of hair over the vertex of the head. Over time this results in a widening of the middle hair parting. This is generally inherited and is equivalent of the common male pattern baldness seen in men.2. Telogen Effluvium
A stress related alopecia that usually causes a heavy shedding phase that can last months. This type of hair loss can be triggered from high stress, thyroid disorders, poor nutrition and a iron deficiency.3. Auto-Immune Disease
There are three main alopecias that can cause traumatic loss. Alopecia Areata is a type of hair loss that causes spots or bald patches on the scalp. Alopecia Totalis causes you to lose all the hair on your head as well as eyebrow hair. Alopecia Universalis causes hair loss all over the hair and body. These type of alopecias are rare and unfortunately very hard to treat.
